Carlo Ancelotti ready to start ‘phenomenal’ Real Madrid defender at left-back to try and stop Bukayo Saka vs Arsenal

Carlo Ancelotti is having issues with his left-back selection and is ready to select one of his top central defenders to start there in a bid to stop Bukayo Saka.

Real Madrid travel to North London on Tuesday evening to face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals and Carlo Ancelotti is having to think carefully about his team selection.

Bukayo Saka is back available for the Gunners and he will be looking to create history for his team by trying to fire them into the semi-finals.

Madrid have been struggling to find a suitable left-back with Ferland Mendy currently out injured. Fran Garcia has been starting there recently, although the Italian coach now has an alternative player in mind.

Carlo Ancelloti is weighing up the possibility of starting David Alaba at left-back for Real Madrid’s clash against Arsenal, according to Miguel Angel Diaz.

Los Blancos will be fully aware that stopping Saka will be key in the tie and the Madrid coach is re-assessing his left-back options.

Fran Garcia has been playing there in the absence of Ferland Mendy, although the Spaniard has struggled to convince.

Madrid suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Valencia, which has left Ancelotti considering changes ahead of their trip to North London.

Alaba, who has been described as ‘phenomenal’, is now in line to start against the Gunners on Tuesday evening.

Madrid could be without up to six players for the trip to North London with Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao all definitely out.

Tchouameni is suspended for the game at the Emirates, meanwhile, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao have both suffered season-ending injuries.

Thibaut Courtois could hand the visitors a huge boost by returning, meanwhile, Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos are both pushing to be available for selection.
