Real Madrid’s season virtually fell apart yesterday when the club confirmed a flurry of injuries, all of which came to light surprisingly on the same day.
Season ending injuries were confirmed to Ferland Mendy, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, leaving Los Blancos stranded in a defensive crisis once more. Further, Dani Ceballos was also said to have suffered an ankle sprain.
It is clear that Real Madrid are planning ahead and preparing for the next season at this point, especially in terms of adding depth to their squad. The midfield is one position where they are looking for a replacement, but one top target is now slipping away.
As relayed by Foot Mercato in a recent update, top Real Madrid target and German protege Florian Wirtz is closing in on a move to Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid were fans of the player’s profile and saw him have what it takes to fill the void left by Toni Kroos’ departure. The price tag was the only factor that stopped them from going all out.
Now, however, the Bayer Leverkusen star reportedly has reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich to sign for them in the summer. After all, even the current Bayer coach Xabi Alonso will likely leave to join Real Madrid.
No agreement has been reached yet between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, but it is safe to say that it is only a matter of time given that the Bavarians are willing to pay out how much is asked for his signing.
If Real Madrid wish to enter and hijack the operation, the time is now. Given Florentino Perez’s overt concern over the club’s finances in recent weeks, however, there would appear to be no way Real Madrid can offer anything meaningful for his transfer.
The Merengues will continue to try to lure the player with sporting promises and a blueprint of their plans. Yet, the operation now appears increasingly complicated.
