La Liga president responds to Real Madrid referee complaints following Huijsen red card

Despite securing a narrow 2-1 win over Real Sociedad and maintaining their hundred percent record in La Liga, Real Madrid are once again annoyed by a constant thread of refereeing mistakes.

During their clash against Sociedad, key defender Dean Huijsen was controversially sent off in the 33rd minute, leaving Real Madrid fending for themselves with ten-men throughout the remainder of the proceedings.

This led to intense frustration from the Real Madrid camp, who are expected to submit a dossier to FIFA, pointing out the refereeing mistakes against Los Blancos.

In a recent media interaction (h/t AS), La Liga president Javier Tebas was asked about Huijsen’s red card and whether or not it was valid at all.

"I’m not going to give my opinion. Nor should there have been any intervention. I’m sure they’ll explain it. I have my opinion as a fan. We should move towards the FVS (Football Video Support) model of the Primera RFEF. Coaches should call plays. Not a VAR room," he said.

Tebas went on to profess the usage of the same model in La Liga matches, urging stakeholders to consider the proposal.

"We haven’t been here long; this is a global test being conducted. It would reduce the controversy. It’s rarely talked about, but it should be considered. I’d like people to consider whether this system could be implemented in professional competitions."

Tebas went on to talk about Real Madrid’s refereeing report, which the club plan on sending to FIFA.

The La Liga president, though, blamed Real Madrid for damaging the reputation of the competition.

"As they said it covered all Spanish refereeing, it will cover all clubs. If it only covers Madrid and Barcelona, ??it will be a biased report. We have Opta’s data on what happened, including the expulsions from all clubs, the penalties," he said.

"I haven’t seen any report on Real Madrid’s penalties. It’s curious. Let it be a complete report. Let everyone draw their own conclusions. All they’re trying to do is damage the competition," he added.

Finally, Tebas was also asked about the anti-doping tests which took place before Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Marseille, delaying the club’s training in the process.

While Real Madrid were quick to blame La Liga, Tebas revealed that they have no authority to conduct such tests.

"We have no authority. We never have. They’re very misinformed. They’re spreading the idea that La Liga is to blame for everything. It’s impossible that we sent them. This is a very dangerous narrative. This came from within Real Madrid," he concluded.
