Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies admits Gareth Bale played a big part in his move to north London, after the Welsh defender joined the club last week.
Davies was heavily sought-after by Spurs, but they had to fend off competition from Liverpool. Davies was said to be keen on a move to Anfield due to the club playing Champions League football next season. However, the Reds did not meet Swansea’s £10 million asking price and the Lilywhites did, thus prompting Swansea to offload him to north London.
Davies makes the move to the club Gareth Bale departed last summer for a world record fee of £86 million. Bale and Davies are close friends from the Welsh international set-up and the full-back admits that the Real Madrid star advised him to make the move to the club.
Davies told reporters: “Gareth always used to say what a good club Tottenham were and how they always looked after him.
“That has always stuck with me and is one reason why I decided to make this move.
“People will want to compare me with Gareth but we are different types. He is a huge person to live up to, a superstar.”
