Matchday 2 of the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League took place on Tuesday night with the first half of games completed around Europe.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain produced a fine attacking display to get the better of Barcelona 3-2 at Parc des Princes to move outright top of the Group F table.
David Luiz and Lionel Messi traded early goals before the impressive Marco Verratti headed Laurent Blanc’s side ahead in the 26th minute.
Blaise Mautidi put PSG further in front early in the second half with a neat finish before Neymar soon gave Luis Enrique’s Barcelona hope with a lovely side-footed volley but in the end they were unable to find a =n equaliser.
In the other Group F fixture, Gustavo Manduca’s penalty just after the half-hour mark gave APOEL Nicosia a share of the points at home with Ajax who had Lucas Andersen to thank for their 28th-minute opener.
In Group E, Francesco Totti became the oldest player to score in the Champions League (at 38) when he raced onto a through ball from Radja Nainggolan to produce a deft chip over Joe Hart to cancel out Sergio Aguero’s early penalty against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The 1-1 draw has City sitting third on the table on one point, five behind leaders Bayern Munich after their 1-0 win at CSKA Moscow, while Roma are second on four points.
Group G has Chelsea on top with a win and a draw after they edged Sporting Lisbon 1-0 courtesy of Nemanja Matic’s 34th-minute effort.
The Blues are outright top in their group after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s 56th-minute leveler gave Schalke a 1-1 draw with NK Maribor who are now equal on two points with the Germans.
And in Group H, Jackson Martinez netted two very late goals as FC Porto rescued a point in forcing a 2-2 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk while BATE Borisov caused somewhat of an upset by beating Athletic Bilbao 2-1 at home.
