Sergio Ramos has decided to remain with and retire at Real Madrid and will reportedly meet with president Florentino Perez to iron out the details of his new contract extension, which will keep him at the club until he retires.
According to MARCA, Sergio Ramos, Florentino Perez and Ramos’ brother and agent Rene all sat down in China to discuss the centre-back’s future.
Sergio and Rene explained to Real Madrid sporting director Jose Angel Sanchez that his desire was to retire with the club, which they then reiterated to Florentino Perez.
Florentino, not previously realising the gravity of his refusal to accept Ramos’ wage demands, apologised for the misunderstanding and agreed to renew the contract of the club’s future captain.
The report goes on to add that after the two sides explained their concerns, they all agreed on a contract extension, with Sergio demanding several stipulations that the president seemingly agreed to in order to keep the defender from joining Manchester United.
Manchester United have been the club most heavily linked with Ramos, with reports stating that the Spanish international’s only desire was to leave the club and join the Red Devils.
However, after the meeting in China, the two sides resolved all misunderstandings and will now move forward with the extension, making Ramos one of the highest-paid players on the team.
