Asier Illarramendi is set to undergo a medical ahead of a return to Real Sociedad despite late interest from Southampton.
The Real Madrid midfielder is available this summer and had been linked with Liverpool until former club Sociedad became the clear favourites to sign him.
Yet there were suggestions on Tuesday that Southampton were interested in making a move for the Spaniard as Ronald Koeman looks to strengthen his side for their Premier League and Europa League campaigns.
But that now looks unlikely with Illarramendi back in Sociedad for a medical, with Marca claiming he told reporters he is 'happy' to complete the move.
Reports in Spain suggest the fee agreed for the 25-year-old is around £11.7million, which represents a huge loss for La Liga giants Real, who paid Sociedad €32.2million [£23.5] for Illarramendi's services just over two years ago.
