Florentino Perez apologises to Keylor Navas for Manchester United transfer catastrophe

Florentino Perez attended Real Madrid training on Wednesday morning in order to apologise to goalkeeper Keylor Navas, according to a report in AS.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper was reluctantly set for a switch to the Premier League and Manchester United when disaster struck in the closing stages of the transfer window. The paperwork for the transfer was not put through on time and the deal collapsed, despite the fact Navas had already signed a contract.

While Man United blamed Real Madrid, the Spanish side believe it was United who were at fault for the demise of the transfer.

Navas was not believed to be keen on the move in the first place and had to be convinced to leave Real Madrid. After some time, the former Levante shot-stopper relented and was ready to make the move.

What happened next will go down in history in the world of football and Perez, apparently, feels bad for having messed around with his player.

Perez is now stuck with the keeper until January at the very earliest and reportedly travelled to Valdebebas where he apologised to Navas and talked to the player for two hours.

Navas might take some time to recover from the news that he was not wanted at the Santiago Bernabeu but Perez has acted fast and moved to smooth things over. Whether or not that is enough to settle the player remains to be seen.
