Carlo Ancelotti has said that he was sacked by Real Madrid because of their “philosophy”, as per AS.
The Italian coach guided Madrid to their long-awaited tenth Champions League success in the 2013/2014 season, but failed to build upon that glory the following season and was duly relieved of his duties.
Ancelotti said: "Madrid sacked me because in my final year we didn’t win the league or the Champions League. We only won the Club World Cup and the Spanish Supercup. That is their philosophy."
"When I joined Real Madrid I knew it could last a month, a year, or three or five, depending on the titles won. Winning the Decima only assured me of another year at Real Madrid."
Despite his dismissal, Ancelotti insisted that he still maintains a good relationship with the club’s president Florentino Perez.
He said: "My relationship with Florentino was one of respect, as with all the club presidents I’ve had."
Ancelotti, who has been touted as a potential candidate for the vacant managerial position at Liverpool, has since been succeeded at the Santiago Bernabeu by Rafael Benitez.
The experienced coach also said that he thinks Alvaro Morata will remain at Juventus. He said: "The boy showed his quality at Madrid but with Cristiano, Bale and Benzema there he needed to play more. I think he will stay at Juve."
The 56-year-old has previously managed Parma, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, and it seems that it will only be a matter of time before he returns to the managerial scene.
As far as the Liverpool manager’s position is concerned, however, it seems at present that former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is the most likely candidate to replace Brendan Rodgers.
Meanwhile Madrid’s philosophy of dismissing coaches for going one season without winning a major trophy seems unlikely to change in the near future, and Ancelotti surely won’t be the last coach to fall victim to the policy.
