A few months ago, Florentino Perez was apparently unsure about the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at Real Madrid. The club’s president thought the stars could be on their way out of the club soon, meaning he would have to sign other attackers.
That’s why Robert Lewandowski was their main target for next summer. But now, if claims from Spain are to be believed, the new manager Zinedine Zidane has changed Florentino’s mind.
According to Marco Ruiz, from AS, Zidane doesn’t think he can’t do much to strengthen his attacking options, so his desire is to keep the BBC trio, but to improve their support, and that means buying a world class midfielder.
This midfielder, Marco reports, is Paul Pogba. The Frenchman would cost Real Madrid €100m.
Buying Pogba would also mean winning a battle with Barcelona, since the Catalan club are also interested in the player. Madrid are now racing to negotiate with the midfielder before he agrees a deal with their rivals.
There'll probably be more Poga speculation tomorrow, as the Spanish press continue to ignore Madrid's impending transfer ban.
