Real Madrid 4-0 Sevilla: Los Blancos run riot in rampant second half display

Real Madrid have smashed four past Sevilla at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night, completing an action packed 4-0 victory ahead of the highly anticipated El Classico showdown against Barcelona next weekend.

Karim Benzema gave the hosts an early advantage, however, Sevilla missed the chance to draw level before halftime with a Kevin Gameiro missed penalty.

Second half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Jese sealed the win for the Galaticos who remain 10 points adrift of leaders Barcelona with eight games remaining.

Sevilla hit the woodwork in the opening minutes after a cross by Benoit Tremoulinas which hit the crossbar, with goalkeeper Keylor Navas also getting the faintest touch on the ball.

Karim Benzema scored the opener on five minutes resulting from Gareth Bale’s cross inside the area, and he struck a first time shot on the half volley which sailed into the bottom right corner.

Real Madrid nearly made it two through Gareth Bale who unleashed a thunderous strike from 20 yards out, forcing keeper Sergio Rico to make a save at full stretch which crashed off the right post.

Sergio Rico was kept busy again denying a Cristiano Ronaldo strike towards the middle of goal with Madrid dominating play in the opening quarter.

The visitors were awarded a penalty on 25 minutes after Raphael Varane pulled down a player inside the area, giving the referee no choice but to award a penalty.

However, Kevin Gameiro was denied from the spot kick, firing his shot low and hard towards the bottom right corner, with Keylor Navas making a terrific diving save at full stretch.

In the closing stages of the half, Bale almost doubled Los Blancos lead going in at the break, however, Rico read the move with a sliding interception to divert the ball away from danger.

Into the second half, Iborra had a terrific chance to draw the visitors level who found himself unmarked on the far left of the box, but scuffed his shot off target.

Minutes before the hour, Real were awarded a penalty after Luka Modric was brought down in the area by Jose Antonio Reyes who received a booking.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed the spot kick who blazed his right footed effort high over the crossbar, with Sevilla unbelievably still in the contest.

Real Madrid were denied a second on the hour, after a leaping header from Bale which rattled the crossbar, and straight at the other end Kevin Gameiro ran through on the counter attack to find the back of the net, but the linesman controversially ruled his goal offside.

Madrid punished the visitors through a Cristiano Ronaldo tap in, from a Danilo cross to go 2-0 up after a frantic few minutes at the Estadio Bernabeu.

Just minutes later, Gareth Bale scored the hosts third with an easy tap once again after a Benzema flick on inside the area, and the Welshman slotted his shot inside the right netting past the helpless goalkeeper.

In the remaining ten minutes, Karim Benzema was taken off has a precaution and the fresh legs of Isco came on, in an attacking change from Zinedine Zidane.

Kevin Gameiro was denied a goal after his shot deflected towards the right of goal, forcing Navas at full stretch to make a remarkable save.

Jese bagged Los Blancos fourth in the closing minutes of the match after good link up play with James Rodriguez, and planted a side footed finish into the top right corner with the match ending 4-0 to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
