Brexit has Madrid ramifications?

The United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union reportedly poses a problem for Real Madrid as Gareth Bale will become a non-EU player.

According to AS, the Brexit vote means Madrid may be forced to review their plans for non-EU players, currently James Rodriguez, Casemiro and Danilo.

One of the trio would have to be sacrificed for the Welshman as La Liga teams can only have a maximum of three, although the UK’s withdrawal may not take effect until 2018.

As such, Bale’s position at the Santiago Bernabeu is unlikely to be affected for the foreseeable future, only if the club extend his contract until 2023, as reported by the Spanish Press this week.

EU legislation allows its people to move freely around all 28 member states without passing border controls, plus reside in them for longer than three months, providing they are contracted to work in that country.

The UK ended 43 years of association with the EU on Tuesday as the Leave campaign claimed victory with 51.9 percent of the vote.
