id de Gea will stay at Manchester United after Real Madrid abandoned their quest to sign him, according to Guillem Balague.
De Gea’s protracted move to Real has threatened to overshadow the goalkeeper’s future during his most recent years at United, where he was recently voted as the fan’s Player of the Year for a third successive season.
The Spaniard, who moved to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011, almost completed a deadline-day move to his former club’s bitter city rivals in summer 2015, only for complications to scupper the deal.
Real and United continue to blame one another for the breakdown of the deal, while De Gea signed a new contract under then-manager Louis van Gaal in the aftermath.
It was expected that Real could return in an attempt to sign the 25-year-old yet again this summer, but Spanish expert Balague believes otherwise.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Balague insisted that De Gea would be staying with United, as Real are happy with current first-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas. He said: "I think De Gea now is a clear situation."
"Real Madrid have decided not to go with him. He’s happy, he wants to stay with Manchester United and see what Jose Mourinho brings to him."
