Los Blancos got the new campaign off to a flying start with a convincing victory on Sunday night.
The La Liga title fight has begun in earnest with Real Madrid enjoying a high-scoring victory, while uncovering an impressive new trident in Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Alvaro Morata.
Former youth player Morata lived up to the billing with an outstanding game which only lacked adding his name to the score sheet to put the finishing touch to his great performance.
However, he knows he played a big part in the 3-0 victory in San Sebastian.
The striker did a spectacular job, moving in all areas of the attack, opening up spaces for the Welshman and Mallorcan to make their moves on goal and wading in to help the defence when necessary.
Real Sociedad found the 23-year-old’s mobility a nightmare to deal with and he was unlucky not to score with two great chances plus two good penalty shouts when the defenders were slow to block.
Zinedine Zidane knows there is more to Morata than scoring goals, which is not a problem when you have the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Bale and Asensio in the team.
However there are not so many players capable of creating danger when Los Blancos are far from goal. This is where the Madrileno comes into his own to add an extra dimension to his teammates’ qualities.
Morata made his debut in the starting XI alongside the Welsh international in an official game and the mix worked, together with the 20-year-old adding the final touch to the impressive trident.
With Benzema out of action, the youngster has more chances of playing a starring role to prove the coach is right to have confidence in him.
