Zinedine Zidane has hailed the contribution of Cristiano Ronaldo against Legia Warsaw but admitted people expect more from the forward.
Ronaldo went into Tuesday night's game looking for the two strikes that would take him to 100 goals in European competition, but came away empty handed as the rest of his Real Madrid team-mates put Legia to the sword to win 5-1.
The 31-year-old has only scored four goals for his club this season, a modest return by his own exceptional standards. However, Zidane was happy with Ronaldo's performance and revealed he expected him to return to goalscoring form in the near future.
"We always want Cristiano to score goals," the former France international said.
"But he did well and created a lot of chances. He scored on Saturday and hopefully he will score again in the next match."
"We all expect more from Cristiano and he knows that. We want him to score three or four."
"We took some risks by playing with a very offensive system. It was expected that defensively we would have more difficulties, but we created a lot of chances in attack and that's what we wanted."
Ronaldo was hindered by the Legia defence, and while manager Jacek Magiera suggested he had not put a particular tactic in place to deal with the threat of Ronaldo, he did seem to take joy from stopping the dynamic winger.
"There was no specific strategy for Ronaldo," Magiera said.
"He is a very good player but we contained him well. Our defenders did well, we conceded five goals but we didn't allow him to score, which is positive."
Real take on Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Sunday as they look to overhaul city rivals Atletico at the top of the table.
