2016 Ballon d'Or Shortlist Confirmed

The 2016 Ballon d'Or shortlist of 30 players was confirmed yesterday and there are plenty of familiar names on the list.


The competition has been awarded by France Football every year since 1956, but for the past six year's FIFA had their hands on it but they ended their association last September.


The football magazine continue unabated though and every two hours across Monday they released the next set of names on the shortlist, and in the coming months the 30 man list will be reduced to three, ahead of the trophy being handed out in January.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi claimed the record fifth award of the trophy in 2015 and it has been he, or Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo since 2007, as that award went to AC Milan's Kaka.


The final trophy will be presented on Monday January 9.
