Real Madrid will chase Benjamin Mendy in the summer transfer market if Barcelona beat them to Theo Hernandez, according to reports.
Real Madrid want to sign Atletico Madrid left-back Hernandez.
The 19-year-old is available this summer if a club triggers his £20million release clause.
Barcelona are also eyeing the Frenchman and are said to have provided details of the contract they would offer.
Hernandez favours a move to the Nou Camp rather than Atletico’s city rivals Real.
And French outlet Le10Sport claim bosses at the Bernabeu are already working on a contingency plan in case Barcelona win the transfer battle.
According to the report, manager Zinedine Zidane will instruct the club to push for Monaco star Mendy.
The 22-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Ligue 1 side this season, helping them reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Mendy made his France debut in the 3-1 win at Luxembourg last month and could be in line for selection for the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer.
