Manchester United’s star keeper David de Gea has been long coveted by Real Madrid. The rumors are flying that they’ve figured out how to make it work. The transfer will be a swap involving Colombian starlet James Rodriguez.
The BBC are reporting rumors that Real Madrid and Manchester United have agreed a swap of their two stars.
It has long been known that Real want to bring David de Gea back to the Spanish capital. De Gea grew up in Madrid and played for city rivals Atletico from the age of 13 until he left for United in 2011. Real have not had a reliable keeper since Iker Casillas began to decline and he left in 2015 to join Porto. It is Real’s aim to bring the city’s son back home and have him at the Bernabeu for the best years of his career.
They came within minutes of signing him in the summer of 2015 but Manchester United delayed the transfer with a faulty fax machine and the two clubs missed the deadline. They were foiled again the following summer when Real received a transfer ban from FIFA. This summer they can finally get their man.
The key to the transfer looks to be James Rodriguez. Signed by Real in 2014 after some stellar World Cup performances he has never really settled into the side. The only times he has played regularly have been the spells when Gareth Bale has been missing through injury. He is a Galactico who cannot win a regular place. It makes all the sense in the world for Real to trade him for de Gea.
United have been preparing for de Gea’s departure for two years and chairman Edward Woodward has shown his desire to sign star names. If the two sides can hammer out the details it could leave both sides better off before the 2017/18 season begins.
