Luis Figo says 'nobody is indispensable' in the Real Madrid team - and that includes Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese superstar's future at the Bernabeu has been thrown into doubt after accusations he defrauded the Spanish tax authorities out of 14.7million euros (£12.9million).
Ronaldo has denied the claims but not before speculation linking him with a return to Manchester United or a move to Paris Saint-Germain grew.
Real's president Florentino Perez insisted this week that there are no plans to sell the 32-year-old forward, but former Bernabeu favourite Figo believes no player is bigger than the club.
"I hold the opinion that nobody is indispensable, not just Cristiano Ronaldo," he told Gol when asked about his compatriot's speculation.
"Clubs can't depend on anybody. The history of these clubs is above everyone, even the president or whoever."
Despite his comments, Figo, who played at the Bernabeu between 2000 and 2005, believes Ronaldo will still be in all-white next season.
He added: "A lot of things would have to happen for him to leave."
"It is a person decision and if a person really wants something to happen then it will end up happening, but I see it as unlikely."
Ronaldo once again swerved questions about his future after scoring the decisive goal in Portugal's 1-0 victory over hosts Russia at the FIFA Confederations Cup.

Despite being obliged to face the media, Ronaldo issued a pre-prepared statement talking only about the performance.
He also refused to answer any questions following Portugal's opening 2-2 draw with Mexico at the tournament.
