Real Madrid’s new 30-million-euro-man Theo Hernandez, backed his price tag in his Los Blancos debut.
The 19-year-old Spanish left back drew a penalty in the second half leading the Spanish giants to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in Sunday’s International Champions Cup at Levi’s Stadium. Manchester United went on to win the match, though, as penalty kicks finished, 2-1, to the English giant.
Hernandez led Madrid’s attacking push in the 68th minute, drawing a rough foul on the left flank. Shortly after the ball rolled back into play, the left back again found himself on the ground, but well inside United’s box. A vicious tackle from Jose Mourinho’s new man, Victor Lindelöf on Theo led to Casemiro’s putting the ball past David de Gea from the spot in the 70th minute.
In the first half, Zinedine Zidane made no surprise starting his side’s optimal eleven. Captain Sergio Ramos missed the trip due to ear complications; Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema headlined the star-studded eleven.
A strong 11 on paper wouldn’t cut it for Los Merengues, who fell behind to the Red Devils shortly before half time. With a minute left before both teams headed to the dressing room, Anthony Martial displayed brilliant magic inside the box, dazzling through Madrid’s defense with ease, and delivering an exquisite assist to Jesse Lingard. United’s no. 14 simply had tap the ball past Keylor Navas.
Manchester United depart for the nation’s capitol as they face Barcelona at FedEx Field on Wednesday, while Real Madrid head to Miami for the highly anticipated El Clasico on the same night.
