Real Madrid has one of the strongest squads in the European circuit currently but every side does need some reinforcements more or less. Los Blancos have invested in two young players in Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos as Zinedine Zidane is looking to build a squad capable of breaking all records this season.
However, the departure of Danilo has left the Spanish giants with a hole, and they have been hunting for the right replacement and it seems they have at last found their man. According to reports, Madrid are planning to raid Paris Saint Germain for the service of Thomas Meunier.
Madrid will be vying to defend their La Liga and Championship League titles and Zidane wants experienced covers for each and every position. After the departure of Danilo, right back remains the only position where the Spanish champions lack quality and the French manager wants to change that.
Meunier rose to the occasion in the last season having arrived at the Parc Des Princes last summer only. However, the arrival of Dani Alves would curtail his game time and the Belgian international has been looking for an alternative solution to this problem.
The 25-year-old will command a fee in the region of €15-20m which shouldn’t be a problem for the Spanish side. But Meunier would be demanding first team game time so it remains to be seen how the Spanish club convinces the player to make a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Achraf Hakimi has gone through sufficient development over the last couple of season but he is too young to play in the top tier so a move for Meunier makes sense.
Meunier arrived at the French capital from Club Brugge but he hasn’t been able to clinch a regular starting place as Serge Aurier was the first choice in the right back position. He has been pushing for a full fledged role at the club and with Serge Aurier also set to depart he might have the chance to establish himself in the first team depending on the form of Dani Alves.
Meunier is known for his forward runs through the flanks and could challenge Dani Carvajal for a position in the starting lineup at the Spanish capital. PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi was seen at Madrid and he might have had a chat with the Madrid hierarchy over a possible deal.
The arrival of Neymar means they have to free funds in a bid to comply with the FFP rule and Meunier could feel the heat.
