Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted he cannot explain Cristiano Ronaldo’s scoring drought in La Liga following another blank from the FIFA player of the year in Real Madrid’s 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Ronaldo has now notched just one strike in 55 attempts on goal as Real have limped into their title defence, currently lying third in the league table, and ten points off leaders Barcelona.
"This is football," said Zidane. "Sometimes the ball just won’t go in. I cannot explain it really. But it will come, for sure."
However, Ronaldo has managed to maintain his form in the Champions League, with six strikes, despite Real also struggling somewhat – most especially in their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham at White Hart Lane and 1-1 draw at home against the same opposition at the Bernabeu, with boss Zinedine Zidane in bullish form ahead of their clash with APOEL on Tuesday.
"When a team makes a lot of chances, we cannot be happy, and the players first," said Zidane. "But there is no need to get down. We played a good game and must focus on the postive. This will change. I cannot say anything more than that."
