Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez is reportedly determined to tie up an £88m-plus kit deal with Adidas to match Barcelona’s Nike agreement.
Real have had their kits provided by German manufacturers Adidas since 1998, having previously had a contract with Spanish company Kelme.
Real they receive a base rate of £34m a season, plus add-ons, to wear Adidas gear in matches, training and at official club events.
But their current deal is dwarfed by Manchester United’s - which nets them a whopping £81.5m a year from Adidas.
And Spanish rivals Barcelona are handed more than £88m a season by US sports giants Nike.
According to Diario Gol, Perez wants Adidas to match the amount of money Barcelona are paid.
And he could threaten to seek out a new sponsor if they refuse to meet his demands.
Nike have lost Manchester City as a client, with Puma set to make the Blues’ kits from next season.
And they are touted as potential future manufacturers for Real if they cut ties with Adidas.
Under Armour are apparently in the running to take over from Adidas too.
The amount of money Real can ask for is likely to be determined by how many trophies they win this term.
