Gareth Bale has now broken a record which was previously held by former England captain David Beckham.
Since leaving Tottenham, the Welshman has endured a tough few years at Real Madrid, with injuries blighting his time in the Spanish capital.
However, Bale made his 117th league appearance in the 3-1 win over Getafe on Saturday.
And this means the forward has overtaken David Beckham as the British player with the most appearances in La Liga.
The former Manchester United star played at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2003 and 2007 before leaving for LA Galaxy.
Bale marked the occasion by scoring his 62nd league goal.
But it is not the first time the 28-year-old has surpassed a record set by by a Briton.
Last year Bale overtook former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker as the British player with the most goals in La Liga.
And he will be looking to continue breaking records at Los Blancos despite being linked with a return to the Premier League.
Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo also broke a record of his own on Saturday.
The Portuguese icon scored his 300th goal in La Liga in a fewer number of games than rival Lionel Messi.
The Barcelona forward needed 334 outings to reach the landmark, while Ronaldo managed the feat in 286 appearances.
