Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane admits he wants to avoid fierce rivals Barcelona in this morning’s Champions League quarter-final draw.
The final eight teams in Europe’s elite competition await their fate and the draw takes place at 11am from Switzerland.
Real eased past PSG in the last 16 while Barca comfortably beat Premier League giants Chelsea thanks to a Lionel Messi masterclass.
The two sides are separated by 15 points in La Liga, with Zinedine Zidane’s side currently suffering a miserable domestic campaign.
And Varane is keen to avoid Real’s compatriots as he seeks a third consecutive Champions League title.
"I prefer that it is not a Spanish team," he told Cadena SER.
"The Champions League is about knowing another type of football, other teams. If we do not touch a Spanish team, all the better."
Real and Barcelona have won 17 European cups between them but the pair have never met in a final.
And Varane is relishing the prospect of the two sides going head-to-head in Kiev in May.
When asked about the possibility of an El Clasico final he said: "It would be nice, wouldn't it?"
Real Madrid are currently third in La Liga and return to action on Sunday as they welcome Girona to the Bernabeu.
