Marcelo Admits to Handball After Real Madrid Edge Past Bayern Munich in UCL Semi

Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has admitted to handling the ball in the penalty area during Los Blancos' UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

The clash ended 2-2, meaning Real made it through to their third successive final having won the opening leg 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.

However, Marcelo conceded Bayern could have had a chance at goal from the penalty spot late in the first half as he blocked Joshua Kimmich's attempted cross with his hand.

"Yes, it hit my hand. Well, if it hit my hand, I'd say [it should have been a penalty]. But you guys know that I don't talk about the referees. Many times, refs have ruled against us, and now, I can't come here and talk about his performance again, because when they rule against us I don;t talk about it, you know. I imagined you'd ask me that."

"It is what it is. It was difficult for the ref, because there were many players blocking his view, but if I came here to tell you that the ball didn't touch my hand, I'd be lying to you."

Bayern's protestations were waved away by referee Cuneyt Cakir, and the two sides went in level at half-time after Karim Benzema had cancelled out Kimmich's early goal.

Real's French striker then added a second for the hosts just after the break, taking advantage of a dreadful mistake from Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who somehow allowed a back pass to go under him, which gifted Benzema an open goal.

Just after the hour Real loanee James Rodriguez turned home for Bayern to leave the German champions needing only one more goal to advance to their first final since 2013.

However, Real were able to cling on for a 4-3 aggregate victory.

It is the second successive season in which Real have knocked Bayern out of the Champions League.

Last year they prevailed 6-3 on aggregate after the second leg went to extra time at the Bernabeu, but Bayern also had cause to be aggrieved on that occasion as at least two of Real's second-leg goals could have been ruled out for offside.

As it is, Real head to another final and will have the chance to win a third successive Champions League title against either Roma or Liverpool.
