New Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui is on the brink of being sacked as Spain boss, just one day before the commencement of the World Cup.
Lopetegui signed a deal with Spain until 2020 on May 22 but Real Madrid have swooped for his services and he has agreed to join the Spanish giants after the Russia tournament.
However, the head of the Spanish FA Luis Rubiales is reportedly outraged by the manager's decision to quit his role with the national team, given that he committed his long-term services just weeks ago.
Rubiales is understood to believe that the announcement will have a massive impact on Spain in Russia and could lead to Lopetegui getting the axe on Wednesday.
The belief is that Lopetegui's new role at the Bernabeu should have been announced after the tournament.
The Spanish FA has moved quickly to organise a press conference for 9.30am (BST) on Wednesday morning, in which, it is suggested, Lopetegui could announce he is leaving his role as the national team coach on the eve of the World Cup.
