The Croatian has grown frustrated over a lack of playing time in the Spanish capital.
Midfielder Mateo Kovacic has asked to leave Real Madrid , but the Croatian's plea may fall on deaf ears.
The 24-year-old is frustrated by a lack of playing time at the Bernabeu, where he has played for three seasons following his 2015 move from Inter Milan.
And according to Spanish publication Sport , he has informed the European champions that he wishes to depart for pastures new.
However, Real would not appear to be too keen to let him go as they seek to keep the squad together following the arrival of new manager Julen Lopetegui.
Sport's report claims that the response from the club would be "a firm no", despite the presence of Kovacic's fellow Croatian Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro on their books.
Those three started last month's Champions League final victory over Liverpool, and formed former boss Zinedine Zidane's first choice midfield.
So while Kovacic has played 109 times for Real over those three seasons, most of those appearances have been from the bench.
He has left discussion about his future in the hands of his agent, and will now have to decide whether to approach Madrid personally after the World Cup.
