Kieran Trippier’s excellent World Cup campaign with England seems to have caught the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs - as reports suggest the Tottenham man is a transfer target for Real Madrid.
The Sun reports that the 27-year-old is wanted by the Champions League holders as well as other top sides from the continent.
The Ramsbottom native has been on something of a rags-to-riches journey in his career to date; he was released by Manchester City before joining Burnley and putting in a string of strong performances at Turf Moore while making the right-back berth their his own.
That brought a move to Tottenham for a fee of £3.5M, where he was to play understudy to Kyle Walker before filling his boots after his rival made a big-money move to Manchester City.
He has since secured his first-team place at Spurs and shone as a chance-making defender with a wicked right foot. His performances over the last year there earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
He shone there, too, scoring an early free-kick goal in his nations semi-final loss to Croatia. He became just the third Englishman to score in a World Cup semi-final, in doing that and the first since Gary Lineker in 1990.
His meteoric rise could now continue, if reports linked the Spanish giants to a £50M bid are to be believed. Trippier, who recently penned a new five-year deal, is represented by the same agency that Gareth Bale was when his move from London to Madrid was negotiated.
