Sergio Ramos has had his say on rumours linking Jose Mourinho with Real Madrid

As Manchester United embark on a new era under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this weekend, speculation has been rumbling on about his predecessor's next move.

Jose Mourinho's stock has fallen considerably as a result of his last two jobs in England, yet he has still been linked with Benfica in his homeland, or a return to one of his former clubs Inter Milan or Real Madrid.

The Portuguese is still revered at the San Siro, unlike current Nerazzurri boss Luciano Spalletti, who failed to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League.

However, a return to Madrid would be more complex.

While it's believed he still enjoys a positive relationship with president Florentino Perez, Mourinho sowed seeds of division in the dressing room that have never entirely healed.

Some of the players with whom he had bust-ups have now moved on - such as Mesut Ozil, whom he famously labelled a "coward", and Cristiano Ronaldo - but it would certainly be intriguing to see how the current squad would react.

The likes of Luka Modric, Marcelo, and Sergio Ramos all worked under Mourinho the first time around.

The latter has now given his thoughts on a possible return, insisting it shouldn't even be a talking point when Santiago Solari is in charge.

"People need to show more respect to the coach we have now," Ramos said, via BBC Sport.

" Mourinho left us five years ago yet everyone keeps talking about him."

Marca reported on Friday that the board believe Mourinho is no longer a viable option.

Ramos warned Antonio Conte off taking the job when Julen Lopetegui was axed earlier in the campaign, but the centre-back claims he does not have as much sway as is often suggested when it comes to managerial appointments.

"Some people seem to think that the captains decide which coach Real Madrid appoints."

The Spanish international has already played under 12 different coaches at the Bernabeu.

Solari's graduation from the B team initially appeared to have fixed Los Blancos' problems, but heavy defeats to Eibar and CSKA Moscow have brought them thumping back down to earth of late.

Mourinho would have a big job on his hands if he were to come back - and it doesn't sound as though he would be welcomed.
