Real Madrid make transfer decision with injured Karim Benzema set for operation

Real Madrid have made a decision on who will replace Karim Benzema, who is due an operation this week.

Real Madrid have endured a miserable season to date since Cristiano Ronaldo quit for Juventus in the summer.

Benzema and team-mate Gareth Bale have failed to cover for Ronaldo’s absence and Real sit fourth in La Liga because of it.

Benzema could leave the club in the summer but Real are NOT on the verge of signing a replacement striker.

That is despite the fact the Frenchman will be out for two weeks with a fractured finger.

He will be out of action for two weeks and will have surgery on the finger on Sunday.

Yet Spanish newspaper Marca claim Real are ready to cover for Benzema with the promotion of Cristo Gonzalez from their second team, Castilla.

Gonzalez, 21, has played just three games for Real this season, scoring one goal.

He has remained at Castilla, where he has scored nine goals so far this season.

Gonzalez being promoted to the first team as cover for Benzema means Real are unlikely to sign a replacement for the Frenchman.

It is understood Real Madrid want to land Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen from the Premier League.

But those deals with Chelsea and Tottenham respectively will not come until the summer.

Real play Leganes in the Copa del Rey tonight before a clash with Sevilla at the weekend.

Benzema wants to face Sevilla - a crunch tie against La Liga’s third-placed side - before having his operation.

The striker was seen with his finger bandaged as Real prepared to take on Leganes this evening.

He will likely miss fixtures against Espanyol and Alaves but should be back to face Atletico Madrid in the derby on February 10.

As for Hazard, it is claimed Chelsea would accept a £99m sale of the player right now - because there are fears he could leave for nothing when his contract expires in the summer of 2020.

Hazard has previously admitted he is keen to play for Real at some point in his career.

And Tottenham’s Eriksen appears to be angling for a move to the Bernabeu too, with the Dane as yet not signing a new contract in north London.
