Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the hundreds of well-wishers who have sent messages of support to Iker Casillas after the World Cup-winning goalkeeper suffered a heart attack.
Ronaldo and Casillas were team mates at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2015, winning the Champions League in 2014 and La Liga in 2012.
Casillas, 37, suffered the medical emergency while training with current club Porto on Wednesday morning. He was rushed to CUF Porto hospital for treatment, where he is currently recovering.
The goalkeeper, who captained Spain to 2010 World Cup glory, was seen giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed in a photo posted to his Twitter account on Wednesday evening.
"All under control here, a big scare but everything is intact. Thank you very much for the messages and affection," he wrote alongside the image.
Thousands of fans and players sent messages of support to Casillas, with Juventus forward Ronaldo joining in the tributes with a post on Instagram.
It shows Ronaldo and Casillas posing together in Real Madrid gear during their days as colleagues at the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo wrote in Casillas' native Spanish: "Have strength, my friend. I hope you get well soon."
Casillas had been working at the PortoGaia Training Centre on Wednesday in preparation for their league encounter with Aves this weekend.
He suffered an an 'acute myocardial infarction' - colloquially known as a heart attack - but was treated quickly and is not in immediate danger.
