The defender wants to stay.
Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo was given a tribute in his hometown Zaragoza after conquering the U21 Euro with Spain. There, Vallejo explained that he doesn’t want to leave the club to find some more minutes elsewhere, even though he’s still young and has room for improvement.
"I’ve always said that I’m very happy in Real Madrid with the coach, the fans and my teammates, so I want to stay. It’s a privilege to work with the best players out there and to fight for a spot. I learn so much from them because they’re the best and I want to stay with them. I’m not considering anything, I’m calm and happy," explained Vallejo.
It’s clear that the three first center-back spots are fairly decided with Ramos, Varane and Militao, so that means that Nacho or Vallejo would be the fourth defender on Zidane’s rotation. Vallejo seems to be more than ready for that kind of role and Nacho has more value in the transfer market —Sevilla are interested, according to reports—, so perhaps it’s time to let Nacho become an undisputed starter elsewhere and keep Vallejo so that he can keep learning from Varane and Ramos.
