Real Sociedad unveil Martin Odegaard after signing on season-long loan from Real Madrid... as SEVEN other new players are introd

Martin Odegaard has been officially unveiled to the Real Sociedad fans after signing for the Basque club on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

It was announced on Friday that the 20-year-old Norwegian would be heading away from the Bernabeu for his third loan spell since his hugely anticipated move back in 2015.

Since his move four years ago, Odegaard has also had spells at Heerenveen and fellow Dutch side Vitesse.

He will now finally look to make a splash in Spanish football after joining Sociedad for the 2019/20 season. Thousands of fans turned up to greet Odegaard to the club in a ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

Odegaard posed for selfies with supporters as he made his way around the ground to an ovation from those in attendance.

He joined Real Madrid as one of the hottest talents in world football and was expected to become the next big thing.

However, his plans haven't come into fruition, featuring just twice for Madrid's first-team since moving from Norwegian club Stromsgodset.

He had impressed while on loan at Vitesse last season, scoring 11 goals and creating 12 assists, and he will be hoping to yet again shine with Sociedad.

He has previously suggested that playing under current manager Zinedine Zidane was damaging for him and his development.

"Having Zidane as my coach was beautiful, but it was not good for my self-confidence," Odegaard told Norwegian publication AD.

"I had the opportunity to join many sides earlier in my career but Real Madrid was always my dream, they are the biggest club in the world and it was my best option."

"I trained with the first-team players from early on and I played under Zinedine Zidane for the Castilla side."

"It was important from me to play with the stars such as Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo, it was a big move up from Stromsgodset."

Zidane gave Odegaard his full-debut for the club in the Copa del Rey in November 2016 against Cultural Leonesa, almost two years after signing for the club.

Odegaard burst on to the world stage aged just 15, when he made his international debut for Norway, aged just 15 years and 253 days.

He was one of eight new signings to be unveiled to the Sociedad fans on Sunday afternoon following the club's early assault on the transfer market.

Fans were also treated to a glimpse of Modibo Sagnan, Alexander Isak, Robin Le Normand, Cristian Portu, Aihen Munoz, Alex Remiro and Ander Guevara.

Le Normand, Munoz and Guevara were all making the move from the club's B team to the senior squad.
