Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has told one of the club’s defenders to improve his performances or risk being sold during the summer.
Real Madrid have won just one of their five pre-season matches over the course of the last few weeks in regulation time. They were beaten by Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur, drew with Arsenal but won on penalties and were on the winning end versus Fenerbahce by a 5-3 margin.
Los Merengues’ main point of concern is their defence. Literally every available first time player has been given minutes at the back but Zinedine Zidane has gotten no respite from his side’s defensive frailties. Over all of the pre-season friendlies which they contested, the Whites have conceded a total of 15 goals.
Alvaro Odriozola’s performances have not been as good as last season and the right full back has been caught napping or out of position more than once. Sergio Ramos has now warned the defender that he must pull his socks up and improve displays or risk being sold, as claimed by Fox Sports. Should Real Madrid hypothetically even sell him, they have Eder Militao who can play as a right back.
Florentino Perez won against some top European clubs like Manchester City and Juventus as well as Spanish counterparts Athletic Bilbao when he signed the highly rated Spanish international from Real Sociedad last summer. Real Madrid paid a reported sum of 30 million euros for the 23-year-old.
Over the last season, Odriozola was largely an understudy to Dani Carvajal but managed to rack up 22 appearances across all competitions nevertheless. His attacking contribution was brilliant and he will be an asset for Los Blancos. He has scored once for the club against UD Melilla in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey.
