Zidane hopeful that Hazard will make La Liga debut this weekend

Real Madrid are hopeful that marquee summer signing Eden Hazard will be fit enough to make his La Liga debut against Villarreal this Sunday, according to Marca via The Star.

Hazard, who joined Madrid from Chelsea for £89m earlier this summer, is yet to feature for Los Blancos in La Liga due to a thigh injury sustained in pre-season.

The Belgium international missed Real’s opening day victory against Celta Vigo and was also a noticeable absentee for the club’s disappointing draw with Real Valladolid last weekend, but could well feature this weekend as Madrid take on Villarreal away from home.

His international manager, Roberto Martinez, also hinted that the 28-year-old could return to the fold this weekend. (per The Star)

"My feelings are positive with Eden because he always wants to play," said the Belgium boss, speaking to Het Nieuwsblad. "Also, generally, he recovers quickly and well."

Belgium face Scotland and San Marino next month as part of their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, so will be hoping that their star man is fully-fit by then as the Red Devils look to preserve their place at the top of Group I.

"If he plays at Villarreal we could count on him," added Martinez, who is clearly hopeful of Hazard’s return.

Frankly, the club could do his return. Not a single player in the club’s squad is averaging as many dribbles per game (3.7) than he did last season with the previously outcast Gareth Bale currently the highest with just 2.5. To put that into context, 11 players in the league are averaging more than that, meaning Los Blancos are trailing well behind in an important attacking metric.

With that in mind, Hazard can’t return quick enough.

Madrid fans will surely have been desperate to see Hazard in competitive action since he arrived in June, and will be ecstatic if he is available for this weekend’s trip to Villarreal – especially considering the amount of injuries Los Blancos are contending with at the moment.

James Rodriguez, Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes, Luka Jovic and Isco are all currently sidelined with knocks, so Hazard’s importance to the side stretches further than want, it is more so a need at this stage.
