Real Madrid set to land agreement for wantaway Premier League ace

Real Madrid needs to add talent to their midfield, and this cut-price deal is something they can't overlook.

Real Madrid and coach Zinedine Zidane have finally reached an agreement on the player they need to boost their midfield, and as if fate wanted it to happen no matter what, the club will be able to sign this player for ten times less than what was originally asked from them to pay.

According to a report by Spanish newspaper Marca, the footballer in question is none other than Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, who has turned down four contract extension offers from Spurs' main man Daniel Levy, in order to continue his career elsewhere.

Tottenham's boss seems to have given up on his efforts to keep the footballer around, and now he is ready to cut his losses and see the player leave now for a fee rather than watch him walk away on a free next summer.

The report states that Eriksen will be arriving to the Bernabeu in the winter transfer window for around €25M, which represents 10% of what Spurs' top exec asked Real Madrid to pay for the footballer two summers ago. Real Madrid did not break the bank then, and now, they will be able to sign the footballer on a cut-price deal.

Eriksen's arrival to the Bernabeu is still taken with caution, as Zinedine Zidane is not keen on signing players during the winter transfer window. In fact, this transfer saga resembles that of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa, who had his medical at Real Madrid's training facility but was turned down by the then two-time UEFA Champions League winner, because his signing would wreak havoc among his goalies. Real Madrid had to ask for a reimbursement of their $20M offer to Athletic, who moved on to sell Kepa for over $80M in the summer of 2018.

With the team's woes in the UEFA Champions League, Los Blancos could use a player like Eriksen to add depth to their midfield. As of now, only Luka Modric and Toni Kroos can be considered as pure midfielders, and Eriksen would be a long-term replacement for Luka Modric.

Be that as it may, the international break brought good news for Real Madrid fans. All they have to do is wait until Eriksen is unveiled by Florentino Pérez at the Bernabeu's presidential box.
