Real Madrid Predicted XI Against Real Mallorca: Luka Jovic, Isco get their chance

The International Break is finally over, so we can now go back to looking forward to our beloved clubs taking the pitch once again. Real Madrid start off a very difficult week against Real Mallorca in La Liga before taking on Galatasaray in midweek and then ending the week with El Clasico.

With two massive matches coming up after their game against Real Mallorca and the international break refusing to give many of Real Madrid’s starters a break that they desperately need, Zinedine Zidane is expected to make a number of changes to his preferred lineup. He likely aims to give as many players time to rest, because he’ll probably field them twice in less than a week.

Thibaut Courtois:

After returning from his illness, Thibaut Courtois is expected to take the pitch once again after getting time to play with Belgium over the past week. With a lot of the media taking every possible chance to go against him, he has responded to them recently but knows that the best way to silence them is on the pitch and that’s exactly what he’ll aim to do.

Alvaro Odriozola:

He hasn’t gotten many chances under Zinedine Zidane because of his recent form, but he’s the backup right-back and Zidane will need Carvajal at his best for Galatasaray and Barcelona. Expect Odriozola to start for this game.

Eder Militao:

This may be a little bit unexpected, but I would personally like to see Eder Militao starting ahead of Raphael Varane for this match. The Br azilian still isn’t at the required level to take on the “big teams” as much as Varane is, so starting him against Real Mallorca will help with his slow and steady development.

Sergio Ramos:

This team simply isn’t the same without Sergio Ramos. Whether he will play the full game or rotate with Varane will be interesting to see, though.

Ferland Mendy:

Having very recently returned from injury, Ferland Mendy is expected to start, but he probably won’t play the full 90 minutes. He’s still not fully fit but judging by the past week, I think he will be fine to play most of the match  There is a chance he’ll be substituted with either Marcelo (if he’s deemed fit on time) or Carvajal after about 60 minutes.

Federico Valverde:

I find myself slightly struggling with this as we have seen how this team can crumble without Carlos Casemiro. However, specifically for that reason, Casemiro should be given a rest. He has played almost all of the possible minutes with Real Madrid and Br azil so far and is at genuine risk of injury. Valverde may not be as experienced as him, but he can get the job done against Real Mallorca.

James Rodriguez:

Having stayed back during international break, James should be more than ready to play after overcoming a minor injury. He knows that Zidane doesn’t completely trust him, but he also knows that he’s good enough to force his way into this side. All he has to do is continue with the form he’s had since his return.

Isco:

After his return from injury, expect him to play alongside James Rodriguez. He’s one of the players that has a point to prove, and this is a game where he could really make a statement. Isco will want to show Zidane that can be counted on for El Clasico a week later.

Lucas Vazquez:

Love him or hate him, Zidane is a massive fan of his. After Gareth Bale’s minor injury during the International Break, I highly doubt the manager will take a risk with the Welshman. Vazquez has been below average so far this season, so he’ll need a good performance in order to get some of the pressure off his back. Maybe we will finally see Brahim Diaz make an appearance?

Vinicius Junior:

He has been improving dramatically and it would be surprising if he isn’t chosen to start against Real Mallorca. Depending on how the match goes, we may get to see another cameo appearance for Rodrygo as well while Zidane will want Vinicius to stay fresh in case he’s required in the upcoming games.

Luka Jovic:

He needs time on the pitch, and he won’t get much of it against Galatasaray or Barcelona. Even though Karim Benzema has not been called up with the French team, that doesn’t mean he should necessarily start against Real Mallorca. Starting with Jovic and having Benzema on the bench will be the best option here.
