The Biggest Release Clauses In Football Have Been Revealed

The biggest release clauses in world football have been revealed and surprisingly most of the players are at Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Per beIN Sports, the player with the largest release clause in the world is Madrid forward Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman has been an integral player since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 and has a staggering €1 billion release clause.

Check out the whole list below.

7. Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid) - €350 million

6.) Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Arthur and Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona) - €400 million

5.) Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, Sergio Busquets, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Dani Ceballos (Barcelona and Real Madrid) - €500 million

4.) Lionel Messi, Vinicius Junior, Isco and Marco Asensio (Barcelona and Real Madrid) - €700 million

3.) Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid) - €750 million

2.) Antoine Griezmann (Barcelona) - €800 million

1.) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) - €1 billion

It comes as no surprise that Spain's elite clubs top the list when it comes to release clauses.

Antoine Griezmann's clause is the most recently inserted following his summer transfer from Atletico Madrid last summer.

Madrid on the other hand are keen to tie down their young players down with big release clauses.

Two that stand out are Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz.

The Spanish duo signed for Madrid at a young age and were seen to be the future of Los Blancos.

However, Ceballos is currently out on loan at Arsenal and Diaz is finding it hard to break into a front line brimming with talent.

One player who doesn't play for the top two Spanish teams is Joao Felix.

The 20-year-old sealed a club-record €120 million move to Atletico to replace Griezmann this summer.

Diego Simeone's side are keen to ensure he stays at the Wanda Metropolitano and slapped a €350 million release clause on him.

Super agent Jorge Mendes, who represents Felix would be in line to make €36 million as he is entitled to 30% of the transfer fee.

Despite the crazy release clauses that these players have, the January transfer window has proven players are still available for cheap.

Takumi Minamino left RB Salzburg for a paltry £7.25 million to join Premier League leaders Liverpool.

While Erling Haaland also left the Austrian outfit for cheap to join Borussia Dortmund.
