Real Madrid have registered attacker Marco Asensio for the knockout stages of the 2019-2020 edition of the Champions League. Los Blancos submitted a new squad list and replaced Alvaro Odriozola with Asensio, who is still recovering from the ACL injury he picked up during the pre-season stage in the United States. By no means Asensio will be able to feature against Manchester City in the Round of 16, though.
It’s been six months since Asensio tore his ACL and it looks like the winger could make his return to the squad in March, although he would need some more time until he can actually play for the team in a competitive match, given that he will have to improve his conditioning and complete his rehab.
Asensio would definitely make an impact in Real Madrid’s current squad, given that he could play on the right wing. Still, it will be hard for coach Zinedine Zidane to find him the minutes he needs to improve his fitness and confidence during the crucial stretch of the season, so it’s unlikely that Asensio actually plays relevant minutes in the Champions League this campaign.
