Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos breaks silence on Man City red card and fires Barcelona warning

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has sent a message to fans after his red card in the Champions League Round of 16 clash against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu, insisting that it's important to focus on El Clasico against Barcelona instead of pondering Zinedine Zidane's defeat.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has broken his silence on Wednesday night’s defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League. The Spaniard was sent off in the final minutes for Zinedine Zidane’s side, after fouling Gabriel Jesus to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.

City beat Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabeu, in what was the Citizens’ first every victory over Los Blancos.

Real Madrid went ahead in the second-half through Isco, following a series of defensive mistakes.

But, after City equalised through Jesus, and subsequently took the lead through Kevin de Bruyne, Ramos was shown a red card to deny City a third away goal.

The club captain has told fans that the players won’t be dwelling on the defeat to City, and will instead focus their attention on this weekend’s El Clasico.

Real Madrid host Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Sunday, in a crunch La Liga clash.

The Catalans are currently two points clear of their arch-rivals in the league table.

"After a very difficult night, there are two options," Ramos tweeted.

"We can think about yesterday's defeat or work on tomorrow's win."

"I choose the latter. Head and heart already on el Clásico. #HalaMadrid @realmadrid."

After Wednesday night’s defeat, Real Madrid have now gone three games without a win in all competitions.

They suffered a shock 1-0 away defeat to Levante last weekend.

The game also featured Eden Hazard hobbling off the pitch, and he’s likely to miss up to two months of action through injury.

The weekend previous, Zidane oversaw his side fail to beat Celta Vigo at the Bernabeu.

They drew 2-2 with the relegation-threatened side, after conceding an 85th-minute equaliser.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid face a tall order to qualify for the Champions League quarter-final after their first-leg defeat to City.

They’ll need to score at least two goals at the Etihad Stadium to force extra-time, at the very least.

Zidane insisted that the tie isn’t over, and the club are more than capable of getting a result against the Premier League champions.

"If we want to get through, we have to go there and win," said Zidane.

"Real Madrid can do that. We know what we have to do. It’s a 180-minute-long tie and we need a win over there."

"We need to think about getting through to the next round. We have no idea in mind and that’s what we’re going to do".
