Update on when Eden Hazard could return to training

Real Madrid superstar left winger Eden Hazard suffered a fractured right fibula in the team’s 1-0 loss to Levante, but could he return before the season ends?

Eden Hazard had only just returned to the lineup on Feb. 17 against Celta Vigo after missing nearly three months with an ankle injury he suffered in the Champions League against PSG. Real Madrid’s top summer signing didn’t miss a beat, because even though Real drew with Celta, the Belgian star made an impact with three key passes, per WhoScored.com, and his trademark lively dribbling.

Unfortunately, Hazard suffered a fractured right fibula the following week in the 67th minute of an eventual 1-0 loss to Levante. Hazard showed real quality on the ball in that game, too, but Los Blancos were wasteful in front of goal.

Hazard’s injury is expected to cost him the remainder of the 2019-2020 season, especially since this injury seems to be more serious than the one that costed him nearly three months.

However, there’s some hope that Hazard can make it back to the in May, even if it’s only to resume training with the rest of his teammates.

According to a report from Melchor Ruiz of COPE, via Infinite Madrid, Hazard is expected to return in two months.

Ruiz is careful to state that there is no fixed timeline, and Madridistas can only recall how difficult it was to gauge Hazard’s recovery from the earlier ankle injury. At one point, that injury was deemed minor, but it ended up costing him quite a bit of time.

Playing it safe with Hazard should be Real Madrid’s priority.

With Vinicius Junior in form at left wing, having scored the decisive goal on Sunday in El Clasico, there is no need to rush back Hazard.

He could be an asset in tricky games at the end of the season against Granada, Villarreal, and a Leganes team fighting for its life in the relegation battle, and he could provide a big boost in the Champions League if Los Blancos are still in the competition.

However, Vinicius is an excellent player, so there isn’t a real drop-off between the two in the lineup. Making sure Hazard is 100 percent ready for next season should be the priority, because when he is at his best, he is unstoppable for Los Merengues.

That said, it’s great to hear that Hazard could potentially train with his teammates in a matter of months. We can only wish him the best in his recovery.
