Marco Asensio scored with his first touch of the season vs Valencia

Real Madrid starlet Marco Asensio scored with his very first touch of the 2019/20 season last night against Valencia.

The Spanish forward picked up a serious knee injury in pre-season back in July against Arsenal and was expected to miss the entirety of the campaign.

But with the La Liga season temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Asensio will see a significant part of the 2019/20 campaign and he certainly kicked it off in style yesterday evening.

Seconds after being introduced by Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Mallorca man nonchalantly volleyed the ball into the Valencia net.

Ferland Mendy's cross was bang on the money, but the Spaniard still had so much to do. Even after 330 days out of action, Asensio's left foot is still as deadly as ever.

You couldn't ask for a better return, could you?

Asensio has a knack for scoring in what could be described as a 'first match' with Los Blancos.

The 24-year-old has previously scored for Real Madrid on his La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, Champions League and European Super Cup debuts.

He can now add his 'first match' after returning from a serious injury to that list as well, a very impressive record.

Alongside Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, Zidane has a wealth of exciting young options in forward areas at his disposal for the remainder of the season.

The game against Valencia was yet another reminder of how strong Real Madrid look under the French manager's guidance right now.

Two goals from Karim Benzema, either side of Asensio's emotional strike, capped off an impressive 3-0 win.

Benzema, Eden Hazard, Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos all turned in wonderful performances as Los Blancos sent out a strong message to table-toppers Barcelona.
