Takefusa Kubo is in unsellable territory

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Takefusa Kubo is worth everything to Los Blancos.

On Wednesday, Real Madrid defeated RCD Mallorca 2-0 at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, maintaining their spot in first place. And while loanee Takefusa Kubo was on the losing side of the fixture, the young Japanese attacking midfielder more than made his presence felt.

Kubo was everywhere on the pitch, relentlessly attacking the heart of Real’s defense, which is probably the best in the world. He went to battle with the likes of Ferland Mendy and Fede Valverde, providing an attacking spark for Mallorca yet again.

Clearly, Kubo is too good for Mallorca. Madridistas have felt this statement to be true for the past several months, but Kubo’s class has become more evident since the restart. Despite his best efforts, though, Mallorca remain likely to be relegated. And so Kubo will be looking to a new club to shine even brighter in 2020-2021, perhaps even exceeding what Martin Odegaard has done in 2019-2020 with Real Sociedad.

Of course, the former Barcelona prospect has caught the attention of other top clubs around Europe. According to a report from Mario Cortegana of AS, Ligue 1 powerhouse PSG are “desperate” to sign the 19-year-old. Celtic, Milan, Lazio, and others are also mentioned as interested clubs.

But their interest is hopeless. Like Fede Valverde, Kubo has a sky-high release clause and the full faith of both the coaching staff and upper management. He isn’t leaving Real Madrid anytime soon, because he has all the qualities to be a superstar player.

Like Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior, Kubo has the talent to be one of the absolute best players in the world. He has those same special qualities on the ball with his technique, skill, intelligence, agility, and desire.

Kubo is the total package as an attacking midfielder when looking at traits important to a prospect, and he’s picking things up quickly in Spain’s top flight. Consistency is necessary for Kubo to develop before he can be fully hyped, but Real Madrid know where his upside lies.

According to WhoScored.com, Kubo has completed at least four dribbles in each of the past three games, and he’s drawn eight fouls with a combined two key passes in the last two games against Leganes and Real Madrid.

He’ll need to continue to improve when it comes to setting up teammates and making better decisions in the final third, but Kubo has been highly impressive thus far. Real are looking toward the future in their Revolution, and while it’s flattering for PSG to be interested in yet another prospect signed to Los Blancos, Kubo is a name on the list of players PSG – or any other club for that matter – simply can’t have.
