Everton are now in pole position to sign La Liga ace

Everton are considered to be in pole position as Real Madrid lowers the asking price for James Rodriguez.

When Carlo Ancelotti was the Real Madrid manager one of the star signings he made at Santiago Bernabeu was of James Rodriguez who had set the football scene on fire by his dazzling performances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

However, he could never replicate similar levels of productivity once Ancelotti was sacked by the Los Blancos. The once efficient playmaker is now an unwanted liability for Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane is open to dumping the Colombian as Real Madrid invite offers for the 28 year old.

In the pre-pandemic era Real Madrid were holding out on an asking price of around €50 million. As the economics of football teams crumbled, the Madrid based outfit softened their stance to €40 million. Call it a consequence of a pandemic or a one time bumper discount, Real have now slashed their asking price to €20 million, as per Marca.

Los Blancos paid a whopping €70 million for the Colombian and now when they are ready to sell him for just €20 million, this could be the best deal for Rodriguez’s takers. The 28 year old is contracted till summer 2021 and Real do not want to lose him to a free transfer, hence, they have significantly lowered their asking price.

Everton have been long admirers of James Rodriguez even before Ancelotti arrived. Since the Italian’s takeover, the Toffees have fast tracked their interest as even Ancelotti craves to be reunited with his former pupil.

The former AC Milan coach has admitted in the past that he is still attached to James and would love to have him at Goodison. As on Rodriguez’s part, he is also willing to take a wage cut in order to join a new team.

Everton won’t have a better chance to sign the Colombian. Even though there’s mild interest from Arsenal for James Rodriguez, the Ancelotti-factor will act as a major motivation factor on James’ mind.

€20 million won’t hurt Everton’s finance and will surely improve the attacking calibre of the team. Rodriguez adds creativity and imagination that Everton have been lacking. With Real Madrid wanting to get rid of James Rodriguez, now more than ever, Everton can consider themselves in a very strong position.
