Real Madrid want to sell Dani Ceballos to Arsenal

Real Madrid want to use Dani Ceballos to raise more funds during a time of economic uncertainty in football.

It has been an eventful season on loan for Real Madrid center midfielder Dani Ceballos at Arsenal, but when a club like Arsenal were involved, it was always going to be a whirlwind.

The Gunners recently defeated Manchester City 2-0 in the FA Cup, and they have been on the rise since replacing Unai Emery with Mikel Arteta. Pep Guardiola’s former protege has helped Arsenal greatly, and the team’s rise has lined up nicely with Ceballos’ resurgence in form.

Ceballos has been playing a key role for Arsenal down the stretch of the Premier League season, and the Gunners would like to keep him for one more year. Arteta is growing fond of the hard-working, skillful midfielder, who has become important to the team defensively.

According to a report from El Confidencial’s Kike Marin, Arsenal have asked Real Madrid for another loan for the 23-year-old former Real Betis star. However, Florentino Perez wants to sell the player, because he feels the team needs more money due to the dire financial situation.

Real have already sold an even more successful loanee in Achraf Hakimi to Inter Milan, getting 40 million euros out of the deal. With Ceballos, they might only get half, though his value was actually at 40 million euros before the financial crisis brought on by COVID-19.

Big Premier League clubs like Arsenal are among the few sides that can afford to make transfers this summer, and they could be losing a few star players themselves, such as striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Meanwhile, Madridistas are perplexed by how much the club wants to sell beloved, talented young players like Hakimi and Ceballos. And Real aren’t planning on making any moves this summer. Real have always been financially prudent, but it’s hard not to understand fans’ frustrations when they see other big clubs like Bayern Munich and Juventus making signings.
