Real Madrid won’t be making any major signings this summer, because they have their top prize in focus for 2021.
For more than a year, Real Madrid fans have been hearing about how 2021 is the year to make a swoop for Kylian Mbappe. Unless if PSG somehow decide to play hardball and let the superstar go for free if he doesn’t sign a new contract, 2021 is the year for Los Blancos to snag the most expensive player in the world.
Mbappe, to Real, is worth any price. There is nobody on the planet who could make as big of an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu as Mbappe, both from a footballing and economic perspective. He is the superstar of all superstars in the attack with his goal-scoring touch, fantastic movement off the ball, work ethic, and scintillating acceleration on the ball.
Real Madrid haven’t been making any signings this summer, and they are trying to raise nearly 200 million euros in funds. The reason? They are trying to pinch every penny during the economic crisis and want to still be able to afford a huge bid for Mbappe.
According to a report from Deportes Cuatro, Real Madrid may even have to spend 300 million euros for the PSG superstar next year. While that seems like an unrealistically high price tag, PSG can ask for anything. And Real have to prepare to meet any price for the player. Even if PSG don’t ask for 300 million, the total price of transfer fee plus contract will exceed that number.
Regardless of the specific price tag slapped on Mbappe by Leonardo and the Ligue 1 giants, Real Madrid need financial flexibility to make a deal. The report mentions experienced attacking players with high salaries and no place in the squad, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, as key sales this summer in order to accommodate Mbappe.
Achraf Hakimi has already been sold. Borja Mayoral and Oscar Rodriguez will likely be next. Bale, James, and Lucas Vazquez are all on the chopping block. Real Madrid are clearing space and raising funds for Mbappe, and even if it doesn’t quite take a ridiculous 300 million to get the deal done, Florentino Perez is focused on the club’s most important goal. They need Mbappe to become Europe’s most dominant force again.
