Real Madrid make decision on Dele Alli swap deal as Tottenham seek Gareth Bale transfer

Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign Dele Alli from Tottenham.

Real Madrid have turned down the chance to sign Dele Alli as part of a deal to send Gareth Bale to Tottenham this summer, according to reports. Alli had been offered up to Madrid as a makeweight in the deal for Bale, but Los Blancos decided they weren’t interested.

Tottenham want to secure a deal to bring Bale back to north London six years after they sold him for a then-world record fee.

Spurs want attacking reinforcements this summer, with Jose Mourinho keen to bring in a back-up for Harry Kane, but someone who can fill in other positions as well.

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, confirmed on Tuesday that the player wants to return to Spurs this summer, saying: "Gareth still loves Spurs. We are talking - Spurs, Real Madrid, and the player’s camp."

"Tottenham is where he wants to be."

Spurs have reportedly made an opening bid to Madrid to sign Bale on a one-year loan, and it is unknown whether the deal will include a permanent option.

A permanent transfer hasn’t been ruled out, with Madrid slapping a €20million [£18m] price tag on his head.

Madrid would have to subsidise a large portion of his £600,000-per-week wages in order for the deal to happen, but Spurs reportedly offered up Alli as a way of moving the transfer fee down.

However, Madrid decided they have no interest in signing the English midfielder, but are still open to making a deal for Bale to depart.

The 31-year-old winger has no future under Zinedine Zidane, but still has two years to run on his current contract.

And transfer expert Duncan Castles revealed on Tuesday that Manchester United’s interest in the winger as an alternative to Jadon Sancho has forced Levy to act.

He revealed on the Transfer Window Podcast that the deal is easier to work out this summer than in previous years due to Bale’s desire to leave.

"Madrid are saying they will sell for €20million, and are open to loans where they’ll subsidise some of his substantial salary," he said.

"It’s become less complicated. It’s still complicated, but it’s less complicated than it has been in previous summers."

"Daniel Levy is now exploring the possibility of taking Bale back to Tottenham on loan."

"Obviously he’ll try and get as much of the salary paid by Madrid as possible."

"I’m told he’s also aware that Manchester United have been in negotiations and have set up the details of a loan deal, and therefore he’s fighting to get the player to Tottenham instead."
