'Bye Bale!' Spanish media front pages wave goodbye to Gareth Bale as Real Madrid reassign his shirt number

The Spanish press report the Welshman underwent a medical examination in Madrid ahead of his move to Tottenham.

The Spanish press have bid goodbye to Gareth Bale after reports emerged that he has completed his medical ahead of a move to Tottenham.

The Welshman's protracted exit from Real Madrid appears to be careering towards a conclusion after his agent confirmed that a move to north London was close.

It was then reported that a deal had been completed on Wednesday night, barring minor contractual issues which needed ironing out, in a season-long loan switch which would net Bale more than £13m in wages.

Given the weeks, or even months, of inertia, the pace of this transfer has picked up rapidly in recent days and now reports emerging from Spain claim Bale, 31, on Wednesday underwent his medical at Madrid's Valdebebas HQ.

According to Vamos (via Mundo Deportivo ), both Bale and left back Sergio Reguilon completed their examinations ahead of their switch to north London.

The deal has been moved at such a pace that one Spanish newspaper, AS, splashed with the headline of 'Bye Bale' on the front page of their front page.

AS also report that Los Blancos are now planning for life without the Wales talisman, claiming the club have already planned to reassign his shirt number.

The Spanish outlet reports that Marcos Asensio, who has so often kept Bale out of the side in recent times, will swap his No. 20 for the Welshman's No.11.

The deal is undoubtedly complicated, though, and Daniel Levy, the Spurs owner, is a notoriously shrewd negotiator.

Real Madrid are quite clearly keen to get Bale off the books and, as part of the deal, it is thought the Spanish champions will pay a large proportion of the player's salary should he complete his return to Tottenham.

It is claimed Madrid are willing to pay 50 percent of Bale's £600,000-a-week wage in order to help facilitate a move back to the Premier League.
