Zinedine Zidane 'rejects' chance to sign Dele Alli after being angered by previous comments

There was some speculation that the England midfielder could be involved in the deal which would see Gareth Bale return to Tottenham.

Real Madrid reportedly have no interest in signing Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli due to the fact their manager Zinedine Zidane was not impressed with his attitude after a game in 2017.

Spurs are closing in on a sensational deal to re-sign their former player Gareth Bale from Madrid, with the most likely scenario looking like a one-year loan for the Welsh forward.

There were initially claims that Alli could go the other way as part of the deal, but according to Spanish publication AS the rumours are unfounded.

They believe Zidane was left annoyed by Alli's comments after his Spurs side beat Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League group stages three years ago.

Alli scored twice in the victory, and after the game said: "I'm disappointed I didn't get the hat-trick to be honest. I had an easy chance at the end from a great ball in by Kieran."

"We spoke about it after the first game, we couldn't believe the space we had at times at their place. We don't want to just compete with these teams we want to beat them."

AS claim Zidane was particularly angered by Alli due to the fact his first goal should have been ruled out for offside and his second took a big deflection off Sergio Ramos before going in.

The Frenchman also clearly does not think the 24-year-old would be a useful addition to his squad, and he looks set to continue at Spurs for the foreseeable future.

Alli has had an up-and-down time recently, with many questioning his form over the past few seasons.

He was substituted at half-time during the opening-day loss to Everton on Sunday, and after his game his manager Jose Mourinho said: "Dele was quiet, he was sad. After the game, he was just one of many."

"He’s a good boy, very, very polite and I never saw from him a strong reaction. A good boy, a really good boy."
